Jim Abbott was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Texas Rangers. He won a total of 253 games, including a record 20 consecutive starts. He retired from baseball in 1981, and three years later he founded the nonprofit organization The Jim Abbott Foundation. The foundation's mission is to provide help for people with cerebral palsy. In 2006, Abbott sat down with his friend John Rice, former president of the National League, to discuss cerebral palsy. This resulted in a documentary titled "Jim Abbott: Battling Crippled Kids"
The film documents how Abbott uses his personal fund to help disabled children through his foundation.
